We have made it a bit of a habit to go to at least one weekend market every week and this time, we ended up in Kelvin Grove. The market is smack next to the QUT Kelvin Grove campus and has the usual fresh produce, coffee, breakfast food and cakes.

However, there is one stall in particular that is worth mentioning. The Vietnamese Bahn Mi stall.

The wife and I have always loved this version of the pork roll, so when we saw this stall, we figured we should give it a shot. Honestly, it was the look of the roast pork that sold me, the cracking looked properly crispy after it came out of the broiler.

We bought the roll and started eating it while we wandered the rest of the market. The both of us had the same initial expression when we bit into the Bahn Mi.

The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. If you squeeze the bread like Collette Tatou does in Ratatouille, you will get the same delicious cracking sound.

But the star of the meal is undoubtedly the roast pork. The meat was tender, the crackling was very crispy. The pickled vegetables provided a nice balance to the richness of the pork, leaving the both of us wanting another bite.

We finished the Bahn Mi very quickly and promptly returned to the stall for another.

This is, we both agree, the best Bahn Mi we have ever had. And that includes the stuff we have eaten in Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and the upscale Oh Bahn Mi in KL.

10/10 would come back for more.
